Samsung smart TV hub adds ITV Player to complete catch-up services

Samsung has made a full sweep of leading UK broadcasters catch-up services with the addition of the ITV Player to Smart TV platform.
ITVs catch-up service will complement the BBC iPlayer, Channel 5s Demand 5 and the 4oD service form Channel 4 to its connected TV hub which it feels is best placed to tap into a market where according to its Future of Smart TV research form May 2013 a tenth of UK viewing is via catch-up.
In addition to the catch-up bouquet, Samsung is also working with app partners such as the BBC to develop programming specifically for their on-demand services. It also offers its R Recommendation which is designed to learn intelligently viewing preferences, respond to voice and instantly search live TV, video on-demand services and apps to recommend content tailored to viewer tastes.
People now spend an average of 2.7 hours a day watching TV. We know that more and more people are using catch up services, so demand for our full catch up offering will be high, commented Guy Kinnell, Head of TV and AV at Samsung Electronics UK & Ireland. Weve also seen content providers such as the BBC meeting this trend by commissioning original dramas for BBC iPlayer while the House of Cards has been streamed exclusively for Netflix subscribers.
