US TV broadcaster Discovery Communications can launch its women’s channel TLC in Germany following the Bavarian media authority BLM granting the channel a licence valid for eight years at its latest assembly in Munich.

TLC wants to mainly target women between 14 and 49, and the 24-hour schedule contains documentaries, reports and reality series.

The channel will be distributed as an advertising-financed free-to-air service via cable, satellite and IPTV with the launch planned for April 2014.

Following men’s channel DMAX, TLC will be Discovery Communications’ second free-to-air TV channel in Germany. The company also operates pay-TV services Discovery Channel and Animal Planet.
