Mediaset’s board of directors in Italy and Spain are currently considering unifying its pay-TV activities under one company.

If approved, the new company would combine 100% of Mediaset Premium’s activities – the company’s pay-TV business in Italy – and 22% of Canal+ which is owned by Mediaset in Spain.

This week the company has been linked to a possible interest in buying a bigger piece of the Spanish satellite platform, which Prisa is looking to sell. According to the Italian newspaper Il Sole 24 Ore, Mediaset is also looking at a deal with Telefónica to buy Prisa’s shares in Canal+ and take over the pay-TV platform.

According to the company’s official release, the over-the-top (OTT) service expansion and possible synergies are currently being looked at in order to decide whether to create a unique pay-TV company or not. The result of these deliberations will be made public during the next board of directors’ meeting, both in Italy and Spain.
