Ten television channels in Pakistan have been fined up to Rs10 million (US$93,000) for showing too much foreign and obscene content, according to local reports.

The Pakistan Electronic Media Regulatory Authority (PEMRA) has fined Hum TV, Oxygen TV and Play TV Rs10 million, while Kohinoor Entertainment, TV One Entertainment, NTV Entertainment, GXM Entertainment, and Jalwa Entertainment have all been fined Rs7 million, said The News.

The Ministry of Information, Broadcasting and National Heritage said the local channels were airing more Indian and English content than the state permits.

Private television stations in Pakistan are prevented from showing more than 6% Indian programming, or 4% from other countries.
