The Paris Trade Court has selected publisher and producer Dargaud Media, which already operates production company Ellipsanime, to take over the animation production company Moonscoop France, which was placed in administration in June 2013.

Dargaud has acquired Moonscoop – whose US subsidiary Moonscoop LCC in Los Angeles, formerly known as Mike Young Productions, and VOD subsidiary Kabillion LLC are not included within the reorganisation – for a total of €600,000, according to reports.

However it will only retain two of the 25 people currently employed at Moonscoop.

Founded in 2003 from the merger of France Animation with Antefilms Productions, and run until June by brothers Christophe and Benoît Di Sabatino, Moonscoop also owns the studios Antefilms in Angoulême and LuxAnimation in Luxembourg, along with digital affiliate Moonscoop Digital Media.

Over the last ten years, Moonscoop had built a large catalogue of around 1,000 hours of children’s programming with titles including Geronimo Stilton, Tara Duncan, Casper, Titeuf, The Fantastic Four and Code Lyoko.

In 2012, Moonscoop was listed as the second biggest French animation producer.
