Although nine out of ten (86%) French internauts know what video-on-demand (VOD) is, only 30% of them have already watched a pay-VOD show, according to Mediamétrie, adding that this ratio remains stable whereas SVOD services represent a much less significant share.
Only 3% of French webnauts do or did subscribe to a SVOD service, paying monthly fees for it.
VOD early adopters are young adults aged 25-34 as well as men.
They mostly use the TV set to watch videos, and their favourite genre is feature films. But 65% also say they watched their last video with the rest of their family.
The practice is different as far as catch-up TV is concerned, as most of the time users are alone in front of their computers (65%) and keen to order shorter programming such as TV series.
