Anil Kapoor’s TV debut in India’s 24 set for 4 October

The Indian version of hit US series 24, which stars Bollywood movie star Anil Kapoor in his first TV foray, is to begin transmission on 4 October on the Viacom18 channel Colors.
“I am getting nervous to announce the show date. It is a great moment of my life. There is excitement… I am thankful, grateful to all actors, technicians and others. They all have given their sweat and blood,” Kapoor is quoted as saying by the PTI.
Kapoor will play Jai Singh Rathod, the chief of a counter-terrorism unit, with the 24 episode series covering 24 heart-stopping hours in his life, using the real time method of narration.
In addition to Kapoor, this latest incarnation of 24 stars Mandira Bedi, Tisca Chopra, Neil Bhoopalam, and Rahul Singh. There will also be cameo performances from Anupam Kher, Shabana Azmi and Rahul Khanna.
24 will be aired every Friday and Saturday at 10pm, so the Colors shows Uttaran and Bani will be cut to four episodes a week, while Comedy Nights with Kapil will occupy a sole Sunday slot.
Colors is now embarking on a high profile publicity campaign, utilising digital media as well as traditional advertising. Behind-the-scenes exposes, with exclusive pictures, chats and possibly a hangout with Anil Kapoor are all on the cards to increase the buzz across social networks. Integration with other Colors television shows such as Big Boss, Comedy Nights with Kapil, and Madhubala are also predicted prior to 4 October.
The series is written by Rensil D’Silva and directed by Abhinay Deo, and plans are already reportedly underway for the second season.
The original US series, which premiered on the Fox network in November 2001, featured Kiefer Sutherland in the role of Jack Bauer. The award winning show ran for eight seasons until May 2010. A 12-episode series called 24: Live Another Day is now scheduled for May 2014.
