As it aims to build on the success of its portfolio of imported American comedies such as New Girl and Suburgatory, Channel 4 has acquired the UK premiere broadcast rights to Brooklyn Nine-Nine.

Following a deal with NBCUniversal International Television Distribution, the UK’s fourth largest broadcaster has high hopes for the single-camera ensemble comedy 22-part series following the men and women protecting and servicing the increasingly hip New York borough. Brooklyn Nine-Nine is produced by Universal Television and 3 Arts Entertainment, created and written by Dan Goor and Michael Schur who executive-produced along with David Miner.

Brooklyn Nine-Nine will debut in the UK on E4 in January 2014. Commenting on the launch, Channel 4 Chief Creative Officer Jay Hunt said; “I’m delighted to bring NBCUniversal’s laugh out loud comedy about a motley crew of cops to the UK. Brooklyn Nine-Nine will be a real treat for E4 audiences when it launches here in the New Year.”

“We have a long-standing relationship with Channel 4 and partnering with them to bring Brooklyn Nine-Nine to UK audiences just seemed like the perfect fit,” added Belinda Menendez, President, NBCUniversal International Television Distribution & Universal Networks International.
