Viacom, NBC said to be flying around Twitter for content deals
Parent Category: 16-04-2013
Social networks have long been predicted as the next growth area for TV and video, and leading network Twitter is said to be close to inking partnerships with major US broadcasters.
According to the Bloomberg financial news service, Twitter has held talks withViacom about hosting TV clips on its site and selling ads alongside them, and is also said to have discussed a content partnership with Comcasts NBCUniversal division.
This would amount to just the latest in a series of moves by the leading social network to commercialise its presence and reach through TV and video. In February 2013 Twitter acquired social TV analytics company Bluefin Labs to create new ad products and consumer experiences in the intersection of TV and its platform, and in December 2012 it announced an exclusive partnership with Nielsen to develop a social TV rating for the social network based on Nielsens SocialGuide platform. Twitter also has partnerships with ESPN, Weather Channel and Turner Broadcasting.
Bloomberg says that the new partnerships would let Twitter stream videos on its site and split the resulting ad revenue with the networks. It added that it expects one or more deals to be reached by mid-May 2013 by which time it could have reached deals with other networks.
